Packing & Preparing Before Move Day
Take inventory of how much you have to pack.
Either call Inside the Box or Get Organized to help you pack your belongings or begin packing yourself several weeks to a month in advance if possible. The more that’s packed up, the faster your move will go!
Label boxes clearly according to which room they will go at your new place. Color coding on multiple sides of the box is the easiest to identify when we down-stack and divide up boxes in the truck.
Group together boxes as you pack in neat stacks of three to five (depending on size and weight) with the heaviest boxes at the bottom and the lightest/most fragile boxes at the top. This method already prepares dolly stacks for your movers and saves a lot of time.
Box all hanging clothes (preferably in wardrobe boxes).
Either box or bag outdoor cushions, pillows, and bedding.
Items that are simply too large or awkwardly shaped to box such as lamps, large kids toys, large vases, etc should be grouped together in each room to better identify what needs to be moved.
Leave clothing items in dressers, chest of drawers, and nightstands as long as they are not made of particle board. Doing this saves you boxes that need to be packed and moved. We will simply stretch wrap the drawers closed to be moved with a dolly.
Clear all clutter or unpacked items from furniture that is being moved. Doing so allows our movers to more quickly access these items during the loading process.
Empty clothes from washers and dryers and clear or stow away all breakable/loose items inside refrigerators.
Group together outdoor decorations and/or garage tools in large tubs or trash cans or simply strap them together.
Try to empty all closets, attics, and other hidden spaces of any items to ensure that nothing is left behind or forgotten by accident.
